Arizona overpaying jobless benefits

Arizona overpaying jobless benefits: "Arizona has one of the highest rates of errors in paying out jobless benefits in the country.
So the U.S. Department of Labor is responding -- by giving the state more money.
The federal agency figures that $132.4 million paid out by the state Department of Economic Security in the year ending this past June was paid out improperly. That amounts to more than one dollar out of every five in benefits.
And over three years, the figure is close to $430 million, about the same percentage.
But David Roberts, a spokesman for the Department of Labor, said it is not rewarding bad behavior.
"It's that we're targeting our resources and our assistance to the states that need it most," he said.
In the case of Arizona, it will be sharing a $72 million grant with Colorado, North Dakota and Wyoming to buy and build a computer system that should better track those who are getting benefits."
