Oct. 1st Free Recycling Day for Old Technology

Got Old Technology? Free Recycling Day October 1st

by  on Sep. 14, 2011, under Recycling

The Arizona Technology Council Foundation is sponsoring a free statewide recycling day on October 1st from 8 AM to 3 PM. This is an opportunity to get those old computers, cell phones, audio/visual equipment and other electronic devices out your house and recycled in an environmentally responsible way. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have some old cell phones gathering dust in a drawer or an old PC cloistered in a closet. Now excuse me while I gather those old phones, power strips, outdated PC and monitor out of my garage and ready to move onto their next life as a shiny new techno wonder.

From the news release:
PHOENIX, AZ, Sep 14, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) — Rapid technology change, low initial cost, and even planned obsolescence have resulted in a fast-growing surplus of computer or other electronic components around the globe. In an effort to provide smarter, more environmentally friendly and convenient recycling choices, the Arizona Technology Council Foundation today announced it is hosting a statewide Technology Recycling Day on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The free service can safely recycle anything from PCs to main frames and about everything in between. Drop-off locations are located throughout the Phoenix and Tucson metro areas or at any Data Doctors location in Arizona, including Tucson and Flagstaff. Donations may be tax deductible and receipts will be provided.
Supported by Data Doctors and Westech Recyclers, all donated equipment will be handled through the Arizona Technology Council Foundation’s Tech Terra Program. This partnership with Westech Recyclers supports Arizona educational programs and donates equipment statewide.
“Our electronics recycling collection service is a great way for businesses and consumers alike to contribute to sustainability,” said Steven Zylstra, president and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council. “We are all responsible for the stewardship of our environment and the Arizona Technology Council Foundation is proud to do its part.”
The electronic equipment and components acceptable for drop-off includes personal computers, computer peripherals, cell phones, networking equipment, main frames, servers, point-of-sale equipment, printers, audio/visual and telecom devices, surplus metals, wire, cable and power strips. Miscellaneous electronic items such as test and/or lab equipment are also acceptable.
“People look for local and easy-to-access recycling programs for their electronics, because they know that even their most outdated gadgets don’t belong in the trash,” said Tom Holland, business development manager, Westech Recyclers, an Arizona Technology Council member company. “Westech Recyclers works to ensure that obsolete computers or other electronics are treated properly and become a valuable source for secondary raw materials.”
Statewide locations of Data Doctors are recycling also, though none are located in Tucson. Their website has a list of their locations: http://www.datadoctors.com/mkt/AZ
