Rising numbers of Hispanics enroll in college - East Valley Tribune: Opinion

Rising numbers of Hispanics enroll in college - East Valley Tribune: Opinion: "A welcome, surprising but confusing report came my way from the Pew Hispanic Center Aug. 25. It shows how there was an astounding 24 percent increase in Hispanic enrollments in higher education in one year alone, 2009 to 2010.
That was the welcome part.
Eighteen-to-24-year-old Hispanics attending college reached 12.2 million in October 2010, an all-time high. Those enrollments grew by 349,000 in a year.
Although Pew traditionally claims it does not attempt to "interpret" data, it did say, "Rising educational attainment is an important driver." This is a tautology unless of course Pew means that more people are completing secondary school and higher-ed enrollments are part of that increasing trend. Demographic factors, such as higher birth rates and immigrant populations are prominent in making Latinos the nation's fastest growing major population segment."
