Arrest tied to grenade parts stirs questions in Arizona

Arrest tied to grenade parts stirs questions in Arizona: "A year after U.S. authorities refused to prosecute a man who confessed to arming drug cartels with hundreds of grenades, Mexican authorities charged him with smuggling explosives.

The arrest last week of Jean Baptist Kingery, a U.S. citizen living in Mazatlan, is raising new concerns about how the Arizona U.S. Attorney's Office handled cases involving weapons smuggled across the border into Mexico.

A Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives supervisor said that Kingery confessed to agents more than a year ago that he was building grenades for cartels and that Arizona prosecutors repeatedly declined to charge him, leaving agents with no choice but to set him free."
