Phoenix City Council split on rescinding food tax

Phoenix City Council split on rescinding food tax: "Some City Council members had hoped to vote on rescinding Phoenix's controversial food tax as soon as next Tuesday, but action has been stalled for now.

The Phoenix City Council was scheduled to discuss the 2 percent tax on food at its policy meeting this week, with a vote planned for a later, unspecified date.

On Thursday, Councilwoman Thelda Williams sent a letter to the city clerk asking for possible action on the food tax as soon as Tuesday's meeting. Support from at least four council members is required for an item to be put on the agenda for a vote, and Sal DiCiccio, Bill Gates and Jim Waring also signed the request."
