East Valley Tribune: Get Out Performing Arts Expo

East Valley Tribune: Get Out Performing Arts Expo:

A full day of free entertainment

Mark your calendar: The 2011 Get Out Performing Arts Expo will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, at Mesa Arts Center.

Dozens of Valley arts groups - from opera companies and children's theater groups to symphonies and dance troupes - are expected to turn out for the free event, which draws about 1,500 spectators each year.

A variety of acts will perform throughout the day inside the Ikeda Theater, including Patti Hannon, the actress who stars as "Sister" in all incarnations of "Late Nite Catechism" at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. "Sister" will close out the show by interacting with the audience.

Matt Lehrman, executive director of ShowUp.com, will emcee the program. Lehrman appears Saturday mornings on 3TV.

Meanwhile, more performing arts companies will host information booths in the theater's lobby. There, spectators are free to browse, getting details on upcoming shows, connecting with volunteer and performance opportunities, and shopping for tickets and subscription packages.

The Get Out Performing Arts Expo will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10 at Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St. Admission is free.
