Aww Picky Pete Found - In a Ditch no Less! Welcome Back, Picky Pete!

Miner statue missing in AJ found in ditch - CBS 5 - KPHO:

Picky Pete - Found!

"A 10-foot tall, 150-pound statue named "Picky Pete" that went missing earlier this week in Apache Junction east of Phoenix has been found.

The statue was recovered from a ditch not far from where he had been perched - next to a sign advertising the Mining Camp Restaurant.

Police said the statue will undergo treatment by a painter for some hand and face injuries.

The statue of a miner with a long, black beard, a satchel and a pick ax, was attached to a concrete and rock base. It was taken sometime Monday night or early Tuesday.

The restaurant has long been a fixture in Apache Junction sitting at the foot of the Superstition Mountains known for the myth of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine.

Vinton Fugate, owner of the restaurant said the statue was invaluable to his business.

"What it's worth to my restaurant is irreplaceable. I know it made a difference having him there," he said.

Fugate said motorists would take pictures next to Pete and ultimately swing into the restaurant. The statue was an asset to the business."
