Phoenix council upends proposal to put mayor's ex-girlfriend on board: "The Phoenix City Council has declined to consider an effort by Mayor Phil Gordon to appoint his ex-girlfriend to a board that oversees billions of dollars in contracts for Sky Harbor International, Deer Valley and Goodyear airports.
On Wednesday, the council withdrew from consideration the mayor's proposal to appoint Elissa Mullany to the Aviation Advisory Board.
Asked about the proposal's withdrawal, Councilman Bill Gates said it was a polite way to handle the situation."
