Lake Powell Chronicle Mayor pitches sewer plan

Lake Powell Chronicle Mayor pitches sewer plan: "BIG WATER — Town mayor Jade McBride plans to send out a letter to all residents this week outlining a municipal sewer plan he hopes will replace Big Water’s aging septic tanks.

McBride will hold four town hall meetings in the coming weeks to answer questions from residents about the plan.

Big Water currently does not have a town sewer system. Residents and business owners have individual septic tanks, many of which, McBride said, predate the town.

“We know there’s a problem there,” McBride said. “Tanks have a life expectancy of 30 years. These have been there since the dam.”

Besides complaints from neighbors about the smell, there is a report from the state’s Division of Water Quality that suggests many of the tanks are past their prime.
